For me...
Chemistry is a compulsory subject for science stream student (u cant drop chemistry but u can choose either biology or physics in Form4,5,6 and matriculation);
Chemistry is something to do with handling, testing, synthesizing and playing around with the chemicals (especially the dangerous chemicals!);
Chemistry is the major subject in pharmacy course (drug structure and properties, even pharmacology also involved chemistry..);
Chemistry is more dangerous than biology and physics (who knows by mixing this and that, or exposing a substance to the air in the lab may cause explosion!)
Chemistry enables the chemists to synthesize many substances and products which are useful and necessary to our daily lives (like medicines, food, clothes...)
Chemistry is all about laboratory works (assays, identification tests, quantitative analysis...)
Chemist is always involved with R&D;
Chemistry explains everything in our surroundings (how the light can on..water is made up of hydrogen and oxygen..why the fruit ripen..what is present in the air...)
Chemistry is about non-living substances (particles, matters, atoms, electrons...)
Chemistry can be divided into organic chemistry (deals with carbon containing compounds), inorganic chemistry, biochemistry and pharmaceutical chemistry;
Chemistry enables the scientist to create something new from other alredy existed substances by mixing, reaction..
Chemistry explains the properties of the substances (why diamond is so hard, why the boiling point of water is 100 degree celcius...);
Chemistry provides the methods or ways for people to test and analyse the safety of a product (quality control, qualitative analysis of drugs or food...)
Chemistry knowledge can cause harm to the public safety where somebody may misuse the knowledge (synthesis of bomb, chemical weapons and radiation pollution in wars..synthesis and misuse of pesticides to commit suicide..)
Chemistry needs a lot of memorising and drawing equation and calculations (moles, molarity...)
Chemistry is not my favourite subject (due to the lab work)
As a conclusion, we are surrounded by chemicals in our lives and with this the role of chemistry in our daily lives is undeniable...no matter how i dislike chemistry subject, i have no choice but to take it (since i have chose pharmacy course...or perhaps i might get rid of it by changing course? =X)
ME too! i m not really like Chemistry! Chemistry quite confusing for me coz of bonding of compound bla bla bla. HEHE! nice blog. BTW, why diamond is hard? =D
ReplyDeletenice and humor :DDD good job jia jia <3
ReplyDeletetq very much hilary giogio~<3
ReplyDeletedoris doris doris~giv me 5!haha! ya la v hv covalent bond la, hydrogen bond la, electrostatic bond la, intermolecular bond la n so on...annoying=p
ReplyDeletebut i still dislike lab the most instead of bonds..haha
diamond is hard becoz each carbon atom is bonded covalently to 4 other carbon atoms, forming tetrahedral structure which keeps on repeating, n finally form an enormous, huge n strong structure :)
btw tq doris for ur comment!
dear, junior nice post you got here from your lovely senior edmunt
ReplyDeletethanz lovely senior edmunt~ haha! wei where hv u been ha? how s ur life now?
ReplyDeletenothing new just working in a community pharmacy
ReplyDeletewah so nice ar...edmunt how about ur degree??bandung ar?
ReplyDeleteNice explanation yek jia, those who dont know about chemistry will understand about it after reading this... i also dont like chemistry because i dont understand much... hahaha... but true also that we still have to study chemistry, no choice... =)
ReplyDeletehehe~
ReplyDeleteu just remind me what i written in my friend fairwell card in collage life~~
just like what u said ,friendship just like all kind of bonding .
some are just like h-bond(easy to separate by any others factor)
some are like covalent bond( never separate ever!!)
jothy... thanx alot for ur compliment! hopefully these are wat in those chemistry student's mind n m not giving the wrong info :)
ReplyDeletehmmm the reality...no choice ><
weeleng....wah...so talented in writing leh...still able to use bonding to describe frenship!goodjob man! its really very true of it! Hope that u will hav many many covalently bonded frensss in ur life that ur friendships are hard to brek! n same to our frenship :)
ReplyDeletethe chemistry is fun but it is difficult when learn
ReplyDeletewe need to put a lot of hard work on it..
gambateh!!!
angie....i canot deny the fun of it especially when v play around with the indicator...pink la, blue la, green la, different charming colour will come out when v mix different chemicals!! emm lets work hard together bah!! +u! =)
ReplyDeletevery creative chan...i like the picture of the guy catching fire hehe....it just shows the dangers of the chemicals we use in the laboratory! =p
ReplyDeletetq ruqi!! ya chemicals in the lab r really dangerous :)
ReplyDeleteChemistry is fun actually ~ just that, the 'fun-ness' will be replaced by lots of stress at some point >.< yeah !! dear ~ i like your post =D
ReplyDeleteur post is nice n very informative..gud job yekjia.. btw,im just curious..u said chemistry involved when fruits getting ripen.. y ar??
ReplyDeletecharlyn ya u r true!! when the stress s more than the fun, then it bcm killing sub! tq for ur like=)
ReplyDeletenanthina~tq for ur compliment!!
ReplyDeletefriut ripen due to the action of a plant hormone called ethylene~
oh..ok ok..as human,plants also have hormones..didn't know that.. thanx for the info!
ReplyDeletereally good article yek jia.. really informative.. learned some new things from the article as well
ReplyDeleteu r welcome nanthini~
ReplyDeletetq janiss~ :)
ReplyDeletevery informative article yek jia...well done!!
ReplyDelete:) Chemistry just like magic, hope you will fall in love with this magic in one day~ By the way, I am still learning to love it~
ReplyDeleteNice post~
